What Is Judo?
Judo is a martial art that was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. The sport it self is not kicking or punching but is all about grappling and throwing your opponent. There are three different types of point: Ippon, Wazari, and a Yuko. The Ippon is a full point and is awarded when you throw a person flat on there back and when you choke or armbar them until they tap. A wazari is a half point and is awarded when you throw someone on their side more towards there back. A Yuko is a quarter point and is awarded when you throw someone and they land on there side more towards their stomach. As you start into the sport you start as a white belt and move up according to the colours that your club uses. You will usually start out the sport as a child and you will fight kids of the same age and weight. As you get older you will get better and will fight better people. You will start out in local tournaments then go to regional, provincial, national and then international.
